The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and fill the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
